"OSCAR" In Memoriam, the cutest Pom ever
About soft pastel In the past, soft pastels made from minerals and oxids handmade and rolled by artists, was used to do fast sketches on the spot. Never more than a drawing tool for color registration for them, to use it later in their artwork, watercolor or oil. During my trip to Paris, and visiting the Louvre, I saw beautiful 400 years old portraiture sketches made with soft pastel. In these portraitures very few colors were used, yet, they were lifelike. Just like a photograph would be. Magical. Today, soft pastel used not just for sketching but for creating paintings. No line-work, the surface is covered with the pigment of the pastel. Using soft pastels on a regular basis requires extreme caution as the medium is toxic if inhaled. It's also absorb thru skin. Because of this health risks, artists wear gloves, use masks and purchase aircleaning/filtering equipment for their working enviroment. For me pastel is still a sketching medium. Oscar is somewhere between a sketch and a painting.
